We left the northeast side of Borneo and flew about forty minutes to Kota Kinabalu, on the northwest side. Here, we stayed at a fantastic hotel on the beach that, in addition to a great pool, tons of activities for the kids and good restaurants, had its own small orangutan nature reserve. On our tour, we learned that it works in conjunction with the Sepilok reserve, taking a small number of orangutans. We saw two climbing around and swinging from the trees who were aged 3 and 4 years old. Then we saw a really young one who was just learning to climb. Dorian was a lucky boy because he got to spend a morning with the park rangers and help prepare food for the orangutans and feed the other animals on the reserve. He was elated!
