An interesting thing...

Coming back to Delhi after our summer holiday was more difficult than it has been in the past--was it coming back earlier than usual? Having one boy in school a month before the other? Did we just have too much fun on our vacation? Who knows, but I was lacking motivation, lacking inspiration. Luckily for me, two things collided--my friend Sejal had come to visit and we had an opportunity to hear Dr. Kiran Bedi speak.

Sejal is a great friend that has been present through many phases of my life. We have kept in touch over the years and, more rare, we have seen each other over the years. Living far away from friends and family is so hard to do so and it is so easy to lose touch. My story with Sejal began in Massachusetts, then moved on to Paris and now we have Delhi. It has ebbs and flows of correspondence, but it has endured and when we see each other after many years, it feels like no time has passed. We talk late into the night about everything. It is a gift of a friendship and one that I will miss when she goes back to her U.S. life.  She is a writer and wrote a story in which I (was lucky to be) mentioned, it is about friendship and the different layers of it. A few days after Sejal's arrival, we were fortunate to hear Dr. Kiran Bedi speak. She has got to be one of the most inspiring people I have heard speak. After her talk, I felt motivated, I felt good, I felt like doing something.  Here is a link to an article written about her: Bedi If you read about what she has accomplished, how can we not be inspired? She runs an NGO called India Vision Foundation (click: IVF). As a family, we have decided to get involved. This year is the year of giving for us.

And it's exciting that you've sponsored a child - I still need to have time to talk to A about it so we can think about it.
