Not Recommended

So, the other day I was with the boys and we couldn't get a taxi. I was desperate to get home, Arthur was fussy and needed a nap and Dorian was hot and needed to be home. We weren't far from our place so I thought we could just hop in an auto-rickshaw and be off. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the auto-rickshaw here in Delhi, they are tiny, three-wheeled green and yellow doorless vehicles that are driven by men usually sitting so casually that one of their legs is bent up on his seat so that he can lean on his knee while driving. Yes, for some reason it seemed like a good idea at the time to go home in one of these. The good news is we made it home in one piece, the bad news is he ran a red light and we almost got hit (the auto-rickshaw is not known for its speed). For the first time in India, I almost lost my cool. Oh, the other bad thing is that Dorian loved it and keeps wanting to go for another ride...

  1. Hello!
I am in Dallas, I just met your father tonight at the Dallas Museum of Art where my husband was recently hired. We are French, we love India. So does our daughter Mélanie (who is 19 and studies in Paris at Sciences-Po). She is also very interested by micro-credit. Could you tell me a bit more about your husband's work? It sounded very interesting!
Enjoy India, I love frangipani too.
And thank you for sharing your experience on your blog!

  2. Hello Laure,
Thanks for your message and for reading the blog. I'd be happy to tell you more about my husband's work here. But,I'd rather tell you about it in an email, so could you send me a message at thistlecait@gmail.com and I'll write you back.
How are you enjoying Dallas? Where in India were you? Any advice or recommendations?
    Thank you,
    Caitlin
